The First Nations paralegal is an identified position for a person who is First Nations. The role of the paralegal is to provide administrative and casework support to the First Nations lawyer and First Nations clients, in a culturally appropriate and accessible manner.  This role provides an opportunity to work within a culturally safe practice at Redfern legal Centre, dedicated to assisting First Nations clients in our local area, across a range of legal issues and areas of law. The First Nations paralegal may also assist other practice areas, depending on capacity and demand.

Redfern Legal Centre’s first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) sets out our organisational commitment to reconciliation and contains a number of concrete actions for us to work towards between March 2023 and February 2025.

Throwing more children in jail will lead to horrific outcomes for communities, families and those children, compounding abuse and trauma. Throwing more children in jail will cause unspeakable damage to Closing The Gap and efforts to create a better future for Aboriginal children in NSW.

In New South Wales, over seven years (from July 2016 to June 2023), a total of 1,546 children were subjected to an invasive strip search by NSW Police. An average of 220 children each year.
