This  online sessions offers a practical, overview of NSW protest law, What you need to know before you go to a protest or organsie one and recent legislative changes. 


This presentation covers the key rules around protesting in NSW, how to organise a lawful action, and the essential legal principles that shape protest and democracy in this state. We’ll also break down recent amendments to the law that affect your rights and responsibilities.


This session is for activists, community organisers, legal observers, practising lawyers, and anyone who has ever attended, or is thinking of attending a protest. It’s also valuable for those with an interest in civil liberties and police accountability.

Samantha Lee – Assistant Principal Solicitor at Redfern Legal Centre. Samantha has driven major law reform campaigns and strategic litigation, including high-impact work on COVID fines, strip search laws, and children and fines.

Presented by
Rian Terrell – Solicitor at RLC and member of the police accountability and generalist legal teams. Rian brings frontline experience from previous work at another community legal centre and in litigation.
